Humm...
Maybe take a bit from the OS model. Make your revenue model more support
oriented. The personal or student version would come with no support the
hobby user would go to forums (like this one :) and the student would
have his class instrutor to go to. The developers would learn much by
interacting with the users on the forum, you could consider this payback
for the free use. Commerical users would want and could justify the cost
of fees for on going support. My 2 cents.
