The value of the display, was the first thing I thought as well.

I don't think this as much merit for the DRO project, but It has a lot of
other good applications the way I see it.


According to the web page, the $99.00 is a "special" with
a premium service contract. Regular price $199.00

I wonder if this is a loss leader, I bet so. As such, getting
one for $99.00 free and clear, may be almost as hard as getting
radio shack to sell you that cell phone for a penny without
signing a contract ;-).

Esp. If people start hacking them.
Without a hack, the service issue was pretty much a non-issue,
Why would you buy it, and not sign up for the service?

Sell the unit,
include a phone number for netpliance,
be assured people will call up credit-cards-in-hand.
Start collecting $300.00/Yr.

That may be different now.



As jaded as it sounds, the best thing to happen would be for them to
sell millions of these things, and then go belly-up.
They would flood the market for next to nothing as orphaned junk.
