I had an M head with badly worn splines, and it drove
me crazy with the clattering, especially when using 2-flute
end mills. I finally figured out how to fit narrow strips
of brass shim stock between the spline faces and bend them
over on the hub so they'd stay in place. it made the machine
much quieter. I eventually sold that head and got a J head.
