Dave: if you use shielded cable, best that made "FOR the purpose", it will
be fine; I would expect up to 25' or possibly more. I KNOW I have seen
"parallel port" (aka "printer-") cables for sale 10' or 12' long!

But for that matter, I would suspect it would be fine for keyboard and
mouse-cables to be 10' long, particularly if properly shielded (shield grounded only
on the "PC-end" might be a good idea).

I have never had need to make either set of cables longer than a couple of
feet, so I can't "speak from experience" with PC's, per-se, but I HAVE done much
else similar stuff, and I see NO problem if you work carefully if splicing,
etc. Better: Buy NEW "purpose-made" cables with connectors already ON the
ends! Making-up/splicing such a cable may SOUND simple, but if you have little
experience with such, the TINIEST thing can mess you up, and you might never
know why!
