The parts for this are readily available. Jameco has the SG3524 for
under a buck. High current (16 amp) PNP Darlingtons are commonplace.
The fast MR850 diode is available from Alltronics. The most expensive
part for me was the choke from Digi-Key, but I've seen suitable
surplus ones for $1.50. And TIP120's are less than 50 cents each prime.
The list description states it is for home brew CNC, doesn't it?
Anyway, I enjoy tinkering and learning. I have been running steppers
on a homebuilt current limiting supply, and that cranks the torue and
speed up somewhat over current-limiting resistors, and I am interested
to see what this cheapo PWM PS will do.
