I purchased boths sets (Wire and Sinker) of EDM plans from Dan, and
there's a wealth of information there.
The g-code interpreter does, indeed, back up when a short is detected.
There's no reason one couldn't put a tank and the wire spooling
stuff on (for example) a Sherline 2000 mill, thus saving a lot of
work.
The author suggests single-use wire for cutting, and it seems to me
that it worked out to about a buck an inch for cutting thru 1/4 inch
Aluminum. not a big deal.
In correspondence with the author, I learned that with the voltages
suggested in the text, the cutting speed in 1/8 inch Aluminum would
be "hours per inch".
The hardware and software used are strictly 2-axis - X and Y. No
provision for tilting the wire/workpiece relative to each other
is made.
Nice plans, very worthwhile information, but building it is a long
way down my "get a round tuit" list (which is lower in priority
than my "what can I do to pay the property taxes" and SWMBO's
"honeydo" lists).
Maybe Marcus will add a commercial one to his shop <grin> / mark
