We have a 1000 watt laser here at work. It has a fanuc control with some extra goodies. There is an extra control circuit that runs off the fanuc that get sent how fast the the servos are running and output a pulse that is proportional to it. so as the feed slows down the pulses are spread apart. this is the run to the laser. You set it up by telling this board how often you want the laser to turn on - say every .010 and then you tell it how long the laser is on say .003 ms. there is a formula we use so if we are running at 30 ipm and want 100% duty cycle of pulses it gives us the info we need. now as the speed of the linear/circular cut slows down the duty cycle goes down and less heat is put into the part. this is because the pulse width is staying the same but as the feedrate slows down there is more time between pulses.
