I used felt wipers on a CNC engraver. The wipers were simply pieces of oiled
hard felt, held against the screw with a spring. The felt wipes off the dirt
and oils the ball screw at the same time. The only maintenance it has needed
in the last couple of years is a drop of oil now and then.
