Since I do not have any other shop equipment except for 3 Sherline Lathes
and 3 Sherline mills, I am not exactly sure what you are describing with the
split nut or slotted and pinched nut. My goal is to eliminate as much of
the Z-axis backlash as reasonably possible.
Please direct me to a picture of this type of lash elimination scheme.

hobby/DIYer approach, but I do not have time to do it myself.
