Granted, Network cable is often an even number of pairs, but I have some
telephone stuff that has Odd numbers of pairs, 25 is very common.

That was why I mentioned the other 2 options.

As to the Gauge, I have a 500' spool of what is probably 18 gauge if not
heavier. it IS a wood spool, and is labeled computer communication
and interconnection cable.

That is precisely the issue, the design features that limit both radiation
and reception of Electro Magnetic fields at the frequencies, voltages and
currents of communication signals may not be good, and may be downright bad
at 50 volts and 5 amps.

The main Issue IMHO is the designed in cross induction of signals between
pairs a guy may use for common high current sources and returns.
