We are running a CNC lathe with TurboCNC. It has a G33 Gcode that
allows allows threading. It works well, very well. Very fast too, ie
we are threading down to 14 TPI at 750-1000 RPM. The limiting factor to
threading speed is how deep you can take the cuts.

The issue I see with your threading is the thinness of your material. I
think you'll have to set up a steady rest to keep it from bowing out,
depending if you are threading the whole 12" or just the ends. (Not
clear to me from your statement.)

You could thread shorter sections (ie ends) of said material in the mill
using TurboCNC and its thread *milling* commands. CNC equipment is
outstanding these days...

We've got an autofeed system half completed for our lathe, but it feeds
long lengths of bars, not 12" pieces. Maybe you could buy long lengths
and cut them off to length.
