You can buy an EStop switch from just about any industrial supply
place. They are a big red mushroomed head switch. It can have more
than one set of contacts, however you ALWAYS want to use the set of
contacts that is ON when the switch is pulled out and OFF when the
switch is pushed in (NC contacts). This insures that the EStop
switch and all it's wiring are good or the machine won't work. If
you wire an EStop NO (in other words pushing the EStop closes the
circuit) and one of your EStop wire becomes broken or disconnectd you
will not be able to stop the machine. BTW, this holds true for limit
switches as well; I've seen a $300,000 machine with NO limit switches
break a wire and try to remove several thousand dollars of camera's,
plasma torch, tig torch etc. from where it was mounted.
How it's wired in depends on what you want it to do, kill all power
or just drive power and what other things all already in your system.
I would normally suggest just killing drive power and keeping the
control powerd up as it normally makes it easier to recover from an
EStop. This is what your indicating your wanting to do as well. Do
you already have a power control relay of some sort or just an ON/OFF
switch?
