Hello,

As with so many other things mechanical, both machine types have
their virtues. Generally it is easier to make a moving table style
more rigid than a gantry, at the expense of material and space.
Moving table types tend to stay in alignment longer, and better, than
gantries. As has been mentioned, the moving table suffers if heavy or
oversize items are envisioned being placed upon it. Besides the
obvious advantage for a non-moving table when heavy/large items are
contemplated: It is the significant savings in materials, slides, and
space which are the gantry's chief advantages

I'm not sure why you'd call 2-1/2 feet a "wash"?? A 48 inch travel
gantry machine can easily be made in a 66 inch length, whilst the
moving tabe HAS to be at least 96... In a lot of shops 30 inches is
not insignificant!

Hope this helps,

Ballendo
