That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the reply !

I knew there were spiral taps and I knew they were used in production
tapping, but I didn't realize that they broke/cleared the chips
differently.

I see that Enco sells fiarly economical spiral point/spiral taps. Are
they any good ? Does anyone know of where I could buy a whole set of
spiral taps, ie at "set" discounted prices ?

I wish I would have known this prior to buying our hand taps.
