Jon's right that there is not a freqmodserial.o that is shipped with the
EMC. Nor is one compiled with any of the current distributions. Some of
the necessary serial port (RS232) code is in there and is being used with
the "flying carpet."

Serial communication of the kind that is being imagined here would require
an outboard device. That device could be as simple as a serial to
parallel converter or perhaps something like the one used with DeskCNC.
Once the communication needs of the device have been specified, making
EMC talk that way should be a rather easy task for someone who knows the
system. The speed of the serial port available might also affect the
ability of such a system.
