long leadscrews

Could a person fashion a leadnut with a "string" that could hang in a
loop and be connected to other threaded or non-threaded nuts and as
the leadnut travels it would tug out a couple of them to act as
supports and as it returned it would push them back to the end?

Maybe put them on both sides for say a 9 foot leadscrew.

Anyone tried this or is this even feasable?
