It's a great resource for "small" homebuilt routers, and the level of
expertise (not to mention helpful attitudes) is just incredible.

Additionally, http://www.crankorgan.com has some plans for machines of
various sizes, utilizing hardware store materials. Lots of pictures,
too -- since your background is in engineering, just look at the
pictures and take inspiration! :-)
