Do you get a bigger motor as your screw gets bigger? Or
does it reach a certain point where you cant get a bigger motor and
you have to start gearing it down? My table I am trying to build will
be 4' x 10'. Thanks for any info.
MEK: Yes, of course. Not necessarily for EVERY increase in screw-size, but
in logical "steps".
A 4'x10' table; I would use at least 1.5" dia. ball-screws for the LONG
dimension (preloaded "double" ball-nuts!), and if not that same size, at least 1"
dia. screw for the shorter coordinate. BEEN there, DONE that! For that big
one, you will need at least a "Size 42", if not a next-size-larger. I know
NOTHING of servos, however.
Using speed-reducing sprocket or timing-belt will decrease your precision,
and slow max.-possible movement. I have NO experience with other than direct
connection (oh, I DID one with a chain, and it didn't last a year! NOT a good
plan at all!) Jan Rowland
