Hi Raymond;
After seperating the 2 halves of the coupling during disassembly, I
thought I would check out the other axis too.
The Z Axis grub screw was loose, and probably only seconds away from
undoing itself enough to burr the stepper shaft and prevent it from
being removed too !
My steppers have flats, but I wm now going to put some 222 (loctite
threadlock) onto the grub screws for all axis before re-assembly, I
suspect that the screw undoing without any threadlock is inevitable,
it's just a mattter of time !
I have also replaced all of the CNC bearings, and recommend that
anyone assembling a CNC conversion for the sherline forget about the
spanner to tighten the thrust nut, and just use your fingers. All my
axis bearings were pitted caused by over-tightening of these thrust
nuts with a spanner as recommended in the instructions, you only
need to take out the end play and then lock the nut with threadlock.
