Honest answer... If you are looking at iron of around the size of a
bridgeport to make money with, find a CNC ready mill. Plenty of old iron
around that can be had for virtually scrap, and some of it is still in very
good condition. Shop around, and ebay might turn one up for less than $1000,
or you may find a dealer wanting to shift one cheap.
Converting a Bridgeport turret mill can be a long and painfull task with the
added bonus of destroying it's resale value. A decent manual Bridgy might go
for $3500 - $4000, a CNC convert may only get $1000.
