Hacking into the DRO's output

Is is posible to use the quatrature output of the DRO slide to
provide feedback to the controller? I figure this would be better
then running open loop with steppers, or reading position directly
from the servo motors because of the backlash/slop in the leads
screws.
Anyone try this? This is for a RF-31 w/ DRO from enco. Sorry if this
has been covered before, I'm new :)
