I seem to recall that a popular (top-of-the-line) CNC lathe manufacturer,
here in the USA uses a Granite/Epoxy matrix poured into the machine base to
give it rigidity. It is also touted as one of the best vibration dampers
there is. But, this is now straying off topic, ain't it?
