Hi Jon,
the shafts are 12mm (~1/2") and it's about all you could comfortably
do to get them to turn between two fingers. They do spin freely at
all--they stop immediately. I have a much larger yaskawa brushless
servo that will spin for a second or two after you flick the shaft
over. They feel like the shafts of some nema 34 steppers I have.
I don't THINK they have a power-off brake; there is no additional
wiring for one anyway.
