Gecko characteristics?

I have Gecko 320's in my system. While setting the gain and damping
I've noticed that the response is not the same when moving in one
direction as compared to the other. I see it when it is decelerating
from a move. From one direction it gives a nice firm stop from the
other I can see that the last 30-60 degrees are approached slowly like
it is overdamped. If I adjust the system to give a firm stop on this
side it is overdamped on the other.
Is this typical t some extent? Should I be looking at something else?
My slides appear to be just as free to move in either direction and
there is no load, nor are they mounted vertically.
