A brush servo motor is often made obvious by the little plastic brush
replacement
screws on the outside of the case. (There are some that are not
designed to be
replaced, like the Ametek motors, that have no brush caps.) If it only has
two heavy wires from the motor, it is almost certainly a brush motor.
If it has 3 heavy wires from the motor, and none of those is a frame ground,
that is likely a brushless motor. If you hook a voltmeter to any 2
wires, and you
get a fluctuating Plus, then minus, then plus voltage reading when
turning the motor
in one direction, that also strongly suggests a brushless motor.
