hi D.F.S,

try pine, it's only one more keystroke than elm to start it up :-)
and religious issues aside, it pretties up the infinite lines and correctly
inserts greater-thans. i love it (and it also feeds standard editors,
but none is finer than vi)

ps, i agree that hard new lines is the standard, but the battle is lost.
live with it. support keeping the RFC's up to date and get your elm or
other mua to do-the-right-thing. but fight hard to slay html tags in
mail, lest we loose that one too.
