Arc welders (AC) usually have a reactor to alter the amps setting. This
means
that with low current settings the regulation will be quite bad. However at
only 30 amps there is very little demand on a welding transformer and even a
cheap one will easily manage 100% duty cycle.
despite the higher rating needed for DC .
Anyway, a cnc machine is not capable of rapid traverse on all axis for more
than a few seconds without running out of axis unless you are doing a life
test and running it flat out on all axis in both directions continuously.A
useful excersize for prototype development
Yes , there is no reason not to use such a transformer,
but avoid running in series. You would be hard pushed
to end up with an off- load voltage of less than 65 V.
