thanks. I suppose I could make my own phase0 signal with some TTL
logic based on the outputs from the 5804? If I recall correctly they
are grounded when the given coil is activated. I'm not sure whan they
do in the inactive state, float to the supply voltage? I'm a bit
rusty on the electronics since I finished the board months ago and
have been mainly working on the mechanics.

Is the basic idea here that the home signal = actual position in steps
modulo 8? that's fine if your switch error is usually within an 8
step range but what if it is more? get a precision switch I guess.
