my experience, stepper motor torque drops off rapidly with rising RPMs. In
fact, I think they may fall faster than an increased pulley ratio can
compensate for. Nothing to do but try various ratios and test for maximum
rapid rates. Seems to me that micro stepping can do more harm than good for
torque. You may try a smaller pulley with half or quarter step rather than (I
presume) the current fifth step. Raising motor voltage to the max your
controller allows would be a very beneficial also. IMHO
