Paul,

I built my own. 54" x 34" x 8" router. Looked at HobbyCNC photos on their
website, ordered their driverboard and 125 oz stepper kit and started
designing. Took about 3 weeks to get the design right and about a week to
build it. I have since modified it to improve speed and accuracy.

The most important part of designing a router is to get all of the hardware
first and design to machine around them. Don't design the router and then
try to find parts to fit it. Ebay is a great way to find parts cheap. I
built my machine for about 15% of the cost of a commercial unit and have
great speed and good rigidity.

Oh yeah, it was a lot of fun to build also!
