Parker SX stepper motor drives and EMC

I have an older lathe that I'm slowly converting to cnc. I believe
I have most, if not all, of the items to do the conversion. For the
ballscrew drive motors I plan on using 2 NEMA 42 steppers. I
understand the benefits of servos but I already have the steppers.
I have two Parker SX series microstep drives. I'm unsure if the
drives can be controller by any means other than the serial port
connection. Has anyone used these types of drives with the EMC
software? Would the Parker S series drives be a better choice?
Thanks
Brian
