Dave,
Sounds like you want a door popper solenoid. You know, the ones they use on cars after
they shave the door handles or on trunk releases. Do a google on door popper you can't
miss them and they usually provide the specs. Too long or short of a stroke is easy to fix
by using a lever to adjust your travel.
