I've used Moglice to retrofit a Sherline mill and lathe. As mentioned
in another email, here in the US the Moglice distributor is Devitt
Machinery ( http://www.moglice.com ) I have talked to Bruce Devitt on
several occasions, and he is very helpful and knowledgable. I called
him up today to ask if anything had come of their looking into smaller
packages than 100g. From my own experience, I wasted easily 3/4 of
each of the two 100g kits I've used.
Devitt Mahcinery buy the Moglice in bulk and repackage it themselves
in smaller quantities in cans. The smallest kit they currently sell
is 100g, and it is a one-shot deal for the user since the resin can
isn't resealable (it is like a tennis ball can, where the whole top
peels off) For the larger 250g and 500g kit, they have found a
plastic snap-on lid for the resin can, and the hardener already comes
in reclosable cans, but they have not found a snap-on lid for the
resin can used in the 100g kit.
They have looked in the past into having Moglice packaged in little
plastic bi-pack envelopes by a contract filler, but the minimum run to
have that done was 5000 units, and they were worried about selling
that many before the shelf life expired.
What would be possible, would be for Devitt to package smaller
quantities themselves in the current 100g cans. The relative price
would increase, but they would be able to test-market the smaller
packages themselves by just readjusting their current filling
equipment.
I said that a 25g kit would sell very well among the benchtop machine
crowd, but I had no idea how big the market really is. I don't see a
big downside to the experiment, other than them needing to print up
new lables for the smaller quantities.
Bruce Devitt is certainly interested in selling Moglice in smaller
packages if the market is there and people will accept the relatively
higher price. It might be worth dropping them an email or phone call
to let them know your interest. Bruce said he would let me know what
they come up with for a plan for packaging smaller quantities.
Best regards,
Randy
