Magnetic chucks are great if the parts have SEVERAL square inches of
flat surface to hold on to but you don't want to mill the sides of parts
because of cutting into the chuck .

Vacuum chucks also require a large contact area but work great if the
parts are large enough . With vacuum chucks you can put a sacrificial
piece of sheet rubber in between the part and chuck so machining all
around the outside is not a problem
