perhaps a more drastic solution ,but will work if the workpiece can be tack welded onto a piece of flat plate which in turn bolted onto the milling table .

Vacuum chucks also require a large contact area but work great if the
parts are large enough . With vacuum chucks you can put a sacrificial
piece of sheet rubber in between the part and chuck so machining all
around the outside is not a problem
