Re: "Smaller" CNC lathe

If I were going to convert a mini-lathe to CNC, I would choose the
LatheMaster 8x14. I own one and also own a Grizzly 7x12 mini-lathe
and a Taig CNC mill.

The 7x12 has inherent "slop" (for lack of a better term) in the
moving parts and in my opinion, adding CNC would just give you
automated slop. I know the 7x12 can be reworked to perform better, I
have done many of the published mods to my machine to improve it.
However I would not invest more time and money to automate this
machine.

The 8x14 however is a well built lathe (I have the 5C collet chuck)
that requires no modifications to put to work. It would be worth the
time and cost to convert to CNC.

I'd like to know if anyone has converted a 8x14 to CNC. I believe
this conversion could have appeal in the low-end commercial market,
not just the hobby market.
