Boss 5 retrofitting

on 2004-09-13 16:52:29 UTC
I've almost got my Boss 5 retrofit finished. I reused old parts for
the power supply, gecko 201's and DeskCNC from Deskam. I wired the
motors according to the Home Shop Machinist articles earlier this
year. The problem is it won't go. There is a noticible difference
in turning a motor by hand when the unit is powered up or not. When
it is on the motor tries to hold its position, although it is very
weak and I can move it easily by hand. There is 80V DC to the
Gecko, and I know the Deskam controller board is working because it
can operate the spindle. Also the Gecko is staying very cool and I
thought it should get pretty hot. Don't worry, its mounted on a
bigol' heatsink with a high volume fan pointed at it. The only
possibility I can think of is that the software is set up for three
axes (setup has a minimum of two) and I wanted to hook them up one
at a time and drive it around a little to get comfortable before I
add another. Maybe it "sees" a missing motor and won't output to
the others because of this.
Thanks in advance
Nathan
