I have one of these and it appears to be made from some type of
silicone rubber, like they use for high-temp wire insulation, etc.. I
think it would take quite a bit of heat to damage it.

do that much insert cutting anyway. Once I was machining a big slot
all the way through the end of a 3" conveyor shaft and I was jogging
around to touch off with a brand new 3/4" X 3" .4-flute TiCn coated
finish mill, the key stuck and it ran into the part and broke one of
the flutes before I could hit the E-stop. $60 shot in the hiney. When
a key sticks it sometimes activates "sticky key" within windows and
then every key sticks. I wish I knew of a way to disable that.
