Glad to see this discussed here again, might be off topic. But I would
like to a have CNC waterjet controlled machine.
I would incorporate a commercial purchased head and system, and build
the rest myself.
The capital investment of the hardware is EXPENSIVE, when taken from a
hobby perspective.
Here are some of my findings from talking with the Flow Corporation
sales rep.at a recent trade show, I was
requesting a "bare" minimum to cut thin gauge carbon and stainless steel:
1. Head: $18,000
2. Abrasive system $15,000
3. Pump: $35,000 new or $19,000 used
Total is about $52, 000 just for waterjet system only no CNC. The pump
is 25 horsepower.
The operating cost per hour including power, water and maintenance was
$2.55 full time running.
The capital layout is a little more than my plasma cutter, so I am
waiting for some one to reduce this cost.
