OK, gotta put in a plug here.

Tcl was designed as a "glue" language with the basic idea of allowing
rapid high level scripting of primitives coded in more traditional
languages. There are extensions to provide an object oriented viewpoint
of Tcl as well. You can embed applications in Tcl or Tcl in an application.
And, it's platform independant. I never wrote another graphics program
in C or C++ after discovering Tk (about 10-12 years ago).

It's not really primitive, but it is simple and consistent which can
lead to some misunderstanding from a casual user.
