A few years ago I remember a guy that wanted to import to the USA
a Russian made lathe that had a similar head arrangement. The Russians
produced it for tool rooms and R&D labs. He said that it was very well
made.
He also said that he was unable to get it out of the country due to the
complexities of dealing with all the people necessary to transport it
from the factory to getting it on board ship. The factory was anxious
to sell it at a good price. The price got too high with all the payments
necessary to export it.
Perhaps this is the same lathe. The discussion was on Usenet probably 5
years ago.
