Let me clarify...

The ballscrew I plan to use is a 12mm diameter with 4mm pitch. My work will primarily be
in aluminum, but occasionally I would like to dabble in inconel or such.

I understand what I was confused on now with the whole bandwith thing. I guess I was
thinking that that would limit me to turning my ballscrews at whatever RPM would yield
20000 pulses from the encoder per second. I understand now that the bandwith only
means how many times per second the system can update the position of the servos and
yes, I think that would be overkill.

I understand now that what I was looking for was the maximum encoder input rate of the
controller and it looks like the Vital Systems PCI Board can handle up to 5,000,000 per
second. I think that will *definately* suffice.
