UHMW is too soft for that application. Deflection would be excessive. Is the UHMW acme nut a shelf item? Those taps are expensive. what kind of dust are you concerned about? If its anything less than grinding dust, standard acme components will tolerate it. As long as it isn't too abrasive. Maybe use a felt wiper on each end of the standard nut and design a way to compress the wiper on the screw, simple as a standard hose clamp. If its extremely dusty you might consider an accordian boot over the screw attached between the machine and nut. Or go to the source of the dust and collect it with a vaccum.

Has anyone had any luck (or experience) tapping UHMW plastic for use
as an ACME nut. I am looking to use 1/2-10 ACME threaded rod for a
lead screw. This will be in a very dusty enviroment, so I am
thinking I want the screw to run dry, thus, the desire for a UHMW
nut.
TIA!
