Howdy Keith;

Here's what I have on it. Someone might be able to home in on something for
you.

AISI W-1 tool steel

.6% to 1.4% carbon
medium wear resistance
medium toughness
very low red hardness
low to medium heat treating distortion
start forging at about 1,800 to 1,900 degrees F.
harden at 1,400 to 1,550 degrees F.
temper at 350 to 650 degrees F.
Rc hardness 64 to 50
listed as water hardening, but quench in oil to avoid warping, cracking, and
distortion.
