I bought mine on eBay from Machine Tools Direct for $640, but they're
$599 now.
Their website is www.machinetoolsdirect.net, though it isn't that useful.
Their eBay store is
http://stores.ebay.com/Machine-Tools-Direct_W0QQsspagenameZl2QQtZkm
There is a set of ballscrews on auction here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=25290&item=3865827010
or search for "ballscrews 9 42" (without the quotes), and it should be
the only auction that comes up.
These are good ground screws, new in the box (from China, manufactured
in 1985). The set includes the two screws (with nuts) and the yoke.
There's plenty of cosmoline on them - get yourself a Costco sized can of
WD-40 before you open the box :) Mine came with test reports, which
were pretty good (0.00023622 lead error per foot (and overall) for the
short one, and 0.00043307 for the long one).
The only problem that I have with them is that the longitudinal screw is
a little too long - I'll have to make my motor mount act as a shim
between the bearing bracket and the table (it needs between 0.2 and 0.4
extra inches).
I have no affiliation with MTD, I just happened to find them when I was
in the same boat as you, and I'm happy with my purchase.
