Forget the idea of splicing a laptop display to another computer.

The signals to drive them are very different from what a CRT requires.

You have 3 options the way I see it.

Spend the money for one of the new flat type displays. They have the brains
inside them to take VGA type signals and regenerate an image for the display.
~4-1,200 bucks.

Use the old 386 laptop or whatever as a unit. MAYBE you could wire up an
extended cable. I have an old lunchbox type 386 with a plasma display that
will end up used for something like this someday, maybe...

Buy one of the surplus LCD displays with a matching controller.
It will replace the VGA card.
I have seen MONO displays for under $100.00 with the controller.
They are bare LCDs and you would need to build a frame and cover for
but that should be a no-brainer with this group.
