I have several of these smaller CRTs I have picked up for projects like
this as well.
One source is Timeline Inc.
www.digisys.net/timeline
I have one of each of the CRT they list on the "Other Products Page"
EXCEPT for the 9" VGA.
Depending on what you want the display to do, the 5" Color for $29.00
may work just fine.
I have ran it just fine from EGA and CGA cards.
I have not tried to run it from a VGA, I expect it should work if you
can get the sync rates set correctly on the vga card.
Older ATI cards had software that would allow you to get set default sync
rates for standard video modes. This would make it work correctly at boot
rather than after you can run a driver to set it.
This would be the cheapest solution for someone wanting to drive it with
a desktop.
Secondly in a setup like this you may very well be able to run a second
display card like an EGA/Mono/CGA card in a machine in addition to the
regular display running a VGA monitor someplace more useful, like on a desk.
