I have been using Bobcad to write my programs for XYZPRO software that runs
my small bench mill/drill I got in 1993.
I have used some "G" code programming but the XYZPRO programming is a little
better.
I started learning programming for a wirecut machine that used FANUC
programming.
Bobcad is good for what I use it for and I am using BOBCAD GOLD V10 (I
think). I export my drawing from AutoCADLT as DXF and then use BOBCAD to do
my "G" code file. It serves for me and the work I do in my home business.
I never did learn to use the drawing part as well as should be because I use
Autocad and have been using it since 1987. (Where I worked up to 1992, use
Intergraph and then went to Autocad V10 on personal computers. This is
where I started with Autocad. I used Drafix until 1998 when I had to go to
Autocad LT because Autodesk bought out Drafix and was not upgrading it. I
needed a standard package for my small business and had to get Autocad. I
am now up to AutocadLT 2000).
All my programming is mostly hole locations and 2D contouring.
BOBCAD is fine but the price keeps going up and when I first purchased it I
got very little help from them on problems. (My copy came from the company
I purchased the retrofitted mill from and seems that he was pirating the
software and charging the same price as BOBCAD at the time. When I wanted
tech help or upgrade they gave me the run around. I even purchased at full
price the upgrade and they were not to helpful on some problems. I found
that I could do my programming just as well using this version. I am also
looking into several other packages as well.
