5/8" with preloaded nuts. I am using the same screw as my table which
is huge for the need. But.....I wanted adjustable nuts and all I
could find anyway were screws that were 1" or bigger with adjustable
nuts. I am about 25% into the quill drive construction. <IMHO>
the "best" quill drive I've seen is at Elrod Machine. Anilam's looks
good too. Check out Jon Elson's site too for a good home brew.
The real secret it appears, is to get the screw as close to the quill
as possible. 'Course you can't use a really tiny screw either,
that'll flex. Trade offs, trade offs, trade offs..........
