Hi Earl,
An edge finder is still pretty useful. I had an electronic edge finder
hooked up to the PC. This was great. For instance you could just hit a
button and the machine would find the centre of a hole. Unfortunately I
demonstrated what happens when an unstoppable object meets an immovable
one so I am back to using a wiggler until I can fix the electronic one.
This hilights one problem of CNC. When hand machining you automatically
stop as soon as you notice something going wrong. CNC machines don't.
They will keep going until something breaks. While learning you will
almost undoubtedly break several cutters and probably gouge a few
clamps/vices etc.
